LYON - Inauguration of the parc Jacob KAPLAN

7 MAY 2009

On the 7th of May at 5.30 pm, Gérard Collomb Mayor of Lyon and elected representatives inaugured the Jacob Kaplan park, public garden located in ZAC de la Buire presently in achievement, rue du Professeur René Guillet - Lyon 3e, in the presence of Gilles Bernheim, Chief Rabbi of France, Joël Mergui, president of the Consistoire central de France, Richard Wertenschlag, Chief Rabbi of Lyon Rhône-Alpes, Marcel Dreyfuss, prsident of the Consistoire Rhône-Alpes Centre, and children and grand-children of the Chief Rabbi Jacob Kaplan.

Jacob Kaplan (1895-1994) was Chief Rabbi of France from 1955 to his retirement in 1980. He was a resistant fighter in Lyon from 1941 to 1944.
