Access a collection of digitized Newspapers

By Anne-Marie Fribourg (translated by Gaby Laws)

On the « Gallica » site of the French National Library, you can access a collection of digitized newspapers.

For example, the Figaro's collection covers the years 1826 to 1942. In this paper you can either perform a keyword search, or go directly to the daily newspaper that interests you. You can find by example, death notice in the social pages, usually two days after the date of death. There is the option to download the newspaper page or to access text mode, which allows you to copy the item.

Some collections, like "Le Temps" are photographed but do not allow a search, obituaries are generally on page 3 or 4 depending on the number of pages.

Eighteen titles are directly accessible covering different periods.
