Four soldiers from the organization ZAKA helped Rabbi Isaac LEIDER and to another volunteer to reach the Beth Israel synagogue by boat. They accompanied them in two boats in order to help with the evacuation of the 7 Torah scrolls. One of these scrolls is 250 years old and is originally from Europe.
The water inside the synagogue crested at 2 meters high, damaging the scrolls, but it seems that they will be able to be restored. There were two victims within the jewish community.
