The pretty stained glass found on the GenAmi homepage comes from the burial vault of the BLOCH family related to the great tragedienne actress Rachel FELIX, who we spoke of in GenAmi 39 (see page 7).In 1868 Rachel’s brother, Raphaël FELIX, married Henriette BLOCH in London. Henriette was a stage actress, born in 1846 in Soultz (Haut-Rhin), the daughter of Gabriel and Marguerite BLUM.
One of their three children was the pretty actress Gabrielle Rachel. Gabrielle married her uncle Isidore BLOCH (1848 Soultz-1919 Paris), the burial vault is in Isidore’s name.

Isidore BLOCH was the director of Dieppe Casino. An avenue and a street bear his name. After his death in 1919, his brother Alexandre (born in 1858), took over the running of the Casino. In 1925, he accepted, rather imprudently, the modernization work imposed by the municipality. A serious error, the required work was far too expensive for a casino that was in significant competition with those of Trouville, Deauville and others that had been in existence since 1886. During 1926, he invested 4,000,000F without even seeing an end to all the work. Alexandre Bloch, who was by now, elderly and in great financial difficulty was unable to keep to his agreement with the municipality and was forced to yield his shares to the director of Le Touquet.
